Pediatric Occupational Therapy
Play-based, purposeful, and personal — therapy that meets your child exactly where they are.
Occupational therapy helps children succeed at their most important “occupations”: playing, learning, making friends, and taking care of themselves. When something gets in the way — big reactions, tricky handwriting, mealtime battles, endless struggles with shoes and socks — the reason usually isn’t a child who won’t. It’s a nervous system, a body, or a skill that isn’t ready yet.
That’s where we start. Rather than working on surface behaviors, we look at the sensory, motor, visual, reflexive, and regulatory foundations underneath them — and build from there. Sessions are one-on-one, play-based, and individualized, with a strong emphasis on carryover into real life: home, school, and everywhere in between. Therapy is available for children and adolescents in the Stone Mountain / greater Atlanta area and virtually.
It Starts With Understanding: The Comprehensive Evaluation
Every therapy journey begins with a comprehensive occupational therapy evaluation — a structured, unhurried look at how your child’s sensory processing, motor skills, vision, reflexes, and regulation work together in daily life. Parent input is central: you know your child better than any assessment tool ever will.
You’ll leave with more than scores. Evaluations conclude with clear, plain-language findings, practical recommendations you can start using right away — including adaptive equipment and environmental changes where they’ll help — and, when therapy is recommended, a plan built around your child’s strengths and your family’s real routines.
Not sure you need a full evaluation yet? A consultation is often the right first step.
Areas We Support
Sensory Processing & Integration
For kids who feel the world at full volume — or barely notice it. Sensory integration support helps children make sense of touch, movement, sound, and body awareness so they can feel comfortable, safe, and ready to engage.
Emotional Regulation & Self-Regulation
Regulation is a skill, not a choice. We help children move from meltdowns and shutdowns toward recognizing their signals, using strategies that work for their nervous system, and borrowing calm from the adults around them along the way.
Fine Motor Skills & Handwriting
Hand strength, coordination, pencil grasp, letter formation, and written output — the building blocks that make schoolwork feel possible instead of exhausting.
Vision & Visual Processing
Seeing 20/20 is only the beginning. We support visual-motor integration, visual-perceptual skills, and ocular-motor and functional vision skills — how the eyes team, track, and make meaning — which quietly shape reading, writing, and coordination.
Primitive Reflex Screening & Integration
Retained primitive reflexes — early movement patterns that should fade in infancy — can linger and interfere with attention, posture, coordination, and learning. We screen for them and support their integration through targeted, developmentally grounded movement work.
Gross Motor Skills, Balance & Coordination
Bilateral coordination, motor planning, balance, and postural strength, stability, and endurance — the foundation kids need for the playground, the classroom chair, and everything active in between.
Executive Functioning & School Readiness
Attention, organization, sequencing, flexibility, and follow-through — plus the readiness skills that help young children step into school feeling confident rather than overwhelmed.
Daily Living & Self-Care Skills
Dressing, toileting, hygiene, and the everyday routines that build independence. Small wins here change the whole tone of a household.
Play & Social Participation
Play is a child’s main occupation and their most natural way to learn. We build the motor, sensory, and social foundations that help kids join in, keep up, and enjoy other children.
Neurological & Developmental Rehabilitation
Specialized support for children recovering from concussion or traumatic brain injury, and for those with neurological and developmental conditions — rebuilding skills with patience, structure, and hope.
Signs a Child Might Benefit
- Big reactions to small changes — meltdowns, shutdowns, or constant overwhelm
- Sensitivity to sounds, textures, tags, or movement (or a child who seeks crashing and spinning all day)
- Handwriting that’s effortful, messy, or avoided altogether
- Clumsiness, low endurance, or avoiding playground play
- Daily battles over dressing, mealtimes, toileting, or transitions
- Trouble sitting still, attending, or getting started on tasks
- Milestones that came late, were skipped, or looked unusual
- Changes in attention, coordination, or regulation after a concussion
A checklist never tells the whole story. If something feels off, trusting that instinct is reason enough to reach out.
Virtual Occupational Therapy (Teletherapy)
Distance shouldn’t limit support. Virtual occupational therapy brings sessions into your home — where your child’s real routines, real toys, and real challenges live. Teletherapy works best as a partnership: your OT guides, coaches, and adapts in real time while you and your child do the doing. Many families find that skills stick faster because they’re built exactly where they’ll be used.
Virtual sessions are currently available to families located in Georgia. As Dr. Carrie’s licensure expands, additional states will open up — reach out and we’ll let you know the moment yours does.
We also offer a teletherapy setup consultation to make sure your space and technology are ready.
